1. What is a cup?

Whether cup or mug – this small cup is made (in our case) of silicone and skilfully catches all the blood during your period .

The cup is an alternative to sanitary pads, tampons or free bleeding.

The special thing about the cup, however, is that it is sustainable, which means that if you take good care of it, it will last for several years.

It's actually quite simple to use . First, you need to make sure your hands are clean before you start inserting it. Then, squeeze the cup and gently insert it into your vagina. The exact placement may take a little practice at first, but don't worry, you'll get the hang of it over time.
When the cup is placed correctly, it will unfold and create a slight vacuum that prevents leakage. Cups come in a variety of sizes, so choose the size that works best for you. Some cups also have small stems on the end to make removal easier.

2. Proper removal

To remove the cup, again make sure your hands are clean, then gently grasp the stem or bottom of the cup and slowly pull it out .

Be careful not to squeeze them too hard, as this can lead to unwanted spillage.
Once the cup is out, empty the contents into the toilet and rinse the cup thoroughly with water . You can also use a mild, fragrance-free soap to clean it.

Make sure all residue is removed before reinserting the cup.

3. Cleaning in the kettle

The most common way to clean your menstrual cup is with boiling water . If you can do it in a saucepan, why not use a kettle, right? Wrong!
Not only do most people use it to boil their tea water, but a kettle also switches itself off when the water boils. This means that the menstrual cup cannot be disinfected long enough.

4. Proper cleaning

The menstrual cup should be cleaned thoroughly after each use .

You can either rinse them with warm water or clean them with a special cleaning solution for menstrual cups.

It's important to make sure there are no soap residues or detergents left in the cup, you don't want to introduce any detergents down there.
After your period, you can further sterilize the cup by placing it in boiling water. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure the cup is not damaged. Store the menstrual cup in a clean and dry place until you need it again.

5. Pro tip: baking soda

Despite good care, discoloration and odors can occur.

In such cases, baking soda is your very own miracle cure. Simply add a teaspoon of baking soda to boiling water and let your cup boil. If the discoloration still hasn't disappeared, you can gently scrub it with a toothbrush and baking soda.
This miracle product not only removes stains from your cup, but also from your favorite white pants. Is scrubbing too much of a hassle? Then our menstrual cup is perfect for you. It is red by default and is perfectly protected against discoloration.
