1. What is vaginal discharge anyway?

The good news first: Vaginal discharge is not uncommon - every woman has it. Well, we were lucky again. Pooh!

Fancy a few facts?

Discharge consists primarily of cells from the lining of the vagina and a secretion that the glands on the cervix (cervical glands) produce. Basically, the discharge is not an uninvited guest that we want to get rid of as quickly as possible, because it cleans and protects . And he does that pretty well.
The colour, the smell or the consistency of the discharge can reveal a lot about us and our state of health. Normally, the discharge is whitish, odorless and not associated with any pain.

🚨ALARMAAAA!!!

Alarm bells should be ringing as soon as your vaginal discharge changes in an unpleasant way.
This could be a real red flag! This can often be caused by a nasty infection with bacteria, fungi or viruses - above all bacterial vaginosis and vaginal thrush.

Other symptoms that are often associated with this are: itching, burning or pain. Now it's time to go to the doctor. He can help you and vaginal infections can usually be contained with appropriate medication.

2. Brown discharge

If your discharge is brownish , it can actually be a sign of a disease - but it doesn't have to be!
Brown discharge can occur during ovulation due to hormonal changes in your body . This is normal as estrogen levels rise, triggering the release of the egg from the ovaries.

Brown discharge is also completely normal before or after your period. In a nutshell: blood that is no longer fresh turns brown. bam! Another cause of brownish discharge can be early pregnancy .

If your brown vaginal discharge isn't itchy, smells bad, or is green-brown, don't panic. However, if there is abdominal pain, fever and/or itching, this is often a sign of a disease or a hormone imbalance . This should definitely be treated by a specialist!

3. Yellow discharge - That's it!

A yellowish discharge indicates that an immune reaction against a pathogen has already taken place.

Because: The yellow discharge is caused by the accumulation of leukocytes (parts of the immune system) on the infected part of the body.
Other symptoms, such as burning when urinating and a fishy smell , can indicate an infection.

The causes are varied and should definitely be clarified by a doctor. It is not uncommon for chlamydia, gonorrhea or trichomonads to be responsible for the yellowish discoloration.

4. Greenish discharge - What's that?!

If you notice greenish discharge, then there is a red alert.

Because very often this is a sign of infection. Various fungi, bacteria but also venereal diseases such as gonorrhea could be responsible here.

That's why the same applies here in the event of additional pain or an unpleasant smell: off to the doc!

5. White discharge

Did you know : Discharge is also responsible for the light spots in your underwear. You can find out what this is all about here .

Okay, okay, based on the info above, you might actually think that discharge is a problematic sign. But it really isn't always. Promised!
As explained before, white discharge is COMPLETELY NORMAL . And helps your vagina to clean itself. Of course, sometimes one goes better than the other, but the color and consistency should be on the same level. Nu ma butter by the fish, what does that mean?

6. What does pre-period discharge look like?

Did you know : Wet panties before your period are not uncommon! Many women are affected. You can find out what is normal and when you have to go to the gynhere .

The color and consistency of the vaginal discharge changes due to the influence of hormones , i.e. depending on the point in time in the menstrual cycle.

Just before your period , the discharge is usually whitish or yellowish and has a tough, sticky consistency. Almost lumpy. Side fact - This is partly to create an impermeable barrier for the sperm because we are less fertile in this phase of the cycle. In fact, there may be so little pre-period discharge that you almost wish you had a little moisture back down there - that's because of the low estrogen.

During the fertile phase around ovulation, estrogen ensures that the cervical mucus becomes very thin and viscous.

The closer you get to ovulation , the better the quality of your discharge: it becomes clearer, glassier, and colorless.

After your period you may notice that your discharge has a slight yellow tinge or white streaks. This is also completely normal and the fault of your hormones!

7. What to do against discharge?

If you think to yourself: vaginal discharge? Nope, not today , we can really understand that.

But you can't really do anything AGAINST it. But we still have a tip:

To protect your hot panties (whether yellow, greenish, white or brown discharge) or just to feel safe - organic panty liners are the thing! Every day. Is that healthy? No! It is not recommended to use panty liners every day. If panty liners are not changed every 3-5 hours then you can quickly create an environment for bacteria & viruses. This does not happen with breathable discharge underwear! Daysics® , with their slightly absorbent insert, are designed to prevent the feeling of wet steps caused by natural discharge in everyday life. Your Daysics® have an extra short and thin insert - for an invisible look - and, unlike conventional panty liners, do not affect breathability. Try it!
