Your period is still a few days away, but your panties are constantly wet and you have the feeling that you are leaking underneath? Do we know. Pre-period discharge is not uncommon . Many women are affected. But don't worry - it's not that bad. Promised! We explain to you what is normal and when you have to go to the gyn.

1. What does the pre-period discharge look like?

Normal or not... sometimes the discharge is just really annoying . Understandable. In order to understand that vaginal discharge is actually a good thing, we will explain it to you in the first step.
The discharge helps keep the vagina moist and most importantly healthy. It is responsible for the natural cleaning of your mumu. Yeah! The damp feeling in the Schlübber is unpleasant, but neither dirty nor unhygienic. Just totally normal. Depending on which hormones are affecting your body at the moment, the amount and nature of the discharge can change. But so far still no cause for concern.
In general, the vaginal discharge is rather whitish to yellowish and smells slightly sour. No itching and no burning! If you notice a discharge that is pink or brown in color before your period, this is often a sign that your menstrual period is beginning. Completely harmless!
Otherwise you should be happy about your discharge aka cervical mucus ...

2. Pre-Period Discharge: Signs of Pregnancy?

If you notice a particularly thin, white and odorless discharge , this can indicate a major hormonal change in your body - for example pregnancy. So that in itself is not unusual. Due to the increased estrogen balance , the vaginal mucosa is better supplied with blood, which can result in increased discharge.
If the discharge is more yellow, brown, green, or even gray and smells bad, then you should get checked out by a doctor. Here, a fungal or bacterial infection is not that rare. But: Increased discharge alone is not a very reliable sign of pregnancy! In many women, such a discharge (leucorrhea) only occurs after several weeks or months. If you suspected it, you probably did an SST beforehand or went to your gyn.

3. Brown discharge before period: what to do?

As mentioned before, brown discharge before your period is absolutely no warning sign of any serious medical condition. But on the contrary! The brown discoloration is a first sign of approaching menstruation and occurs when blood comes into contact with oxygen.
As a precaution, you should have an organic tampon in your handbag. So you won't be unpleasantly surprised at work or on the go. However, if you regularly have brownish spotting and if the second half of your cycle is also shortened, the combination of both can be a sign of yellow body weakness. That sounds worse than it really is, but it can become a problem if you want to have children. Your doctor is definitely in demand here.
