A research team from UC Berkeley in the USA recently found lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium in 30 tampons from 14 different brands . Although German institutes have given the all-clear for now, many questions remain unanswered.
Why are heavy metals harmful?
According to Kathrin Schilling, an analytical chemist at Columbia University, these metals could pose a risk because they quickly enter the bloodstream through the vaginal mucosa and are only later filtered in the liver. This makes it easier for the toxins to spread and potentially cause harm.
We have had our tampons, period panties and pads undergo an extra laboratory test to ensure that they do not contain these heavy metals. The test result from July 2024 confirms: Free of arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury ๐
