Are mini tampons part of your standard repertoire? And even those seem incredibly big to you?
Then you seem to have a light period. Congratulations! Or are there unexpected challenges lurking behind a light period?
But first a few reasons for hypomenorrhea.
Please note: A light period does not automatically mean that you actually have hypomenorrhea. But that is what I mean when I write about very or extremely light periods. And by that I mean really very light. I mean really very, very, very light .
Summary
There is hypomenorrhea and there are simply light menstruators.
Neither one nor the other is "bad".
There are several causes for a very light period.

1. Causes of a very light period
During the entire period, a menstruating person loses an average of 65 ml of blood . The period lasts approximately four days.
Hypomenorrhea occurs when only around 25 ml of blood is lost during menstruation.
The bleeding usually only lasts two days and is like intermenstrual bleeding. In rare cases, the period can even last just a few hours.
The causes of a very light period :
- Hormones (of course...) In this case, it is progestogens that have a negative effect on the development of the uterine lining. If no lining is built up, it logically cannot be shed. Long-term use of progestogens (for example, contained in the morning-after pill) can lead to a light period.
- Ovarian weakness - Ovarian weakness is often caused by poor nutrition. And as always, stress can also be an important factor that affects our hormones.
- Non-hormonal causes include inflammation or repeated curettage of the uterus.
OK, somehow this all sounds like an answer that you don't want to find when searching for a self-diagnosis on the Internet. Light menstruation? - Sorry, that's probably it for your uterus. Of course, it's absolutely not like that! But it's also not as light as you imagine a light period to be.
2. Light period - easy life?
Admittedly, some women would probably be happy with a lighter period .
But is life with a light period really that easy? Short answer: Nope .
Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Unfortunately, an extremely light period is often a sign that something in our body is out of balance.
3. Tampons for light periods?
And even in everyday life, very light bleeding can bring unexpected challenges: using a tampon when your period is light.
To be more precise: the mini tampon, because anything beyond the mini tampon is unthinkable. And even that doesn't really want to go in... and it just doesn't want to come out again.
The best tampon alternative for light periods? We definitely recommend organic panty liners or organic sanitary pads (certified organic quality is available here). Or even more comfortable, our discharge underwear , which is designed for everyday discharge - but works just as well for spotting.
4. Light periods - goodbye to fertility?!
Things get a little more tricky when it comes to the question of fertility . The uterine lining is basically the nest. And without a nest, there can be no implantation.
But the same applies here: as long as you are ovulating, you can get pregnant.
Hypomenorrhea does not automatically mean infertility.
In conclusion, as always, talking to a doctor helps in this case too. An examination can determine whether you are ovulating and whether your uterus is actually not mucous enough for a baby. In this case, there are hormonal methods that can be used to build up your mucous membrane.
Until then, I wish you easy days with smooth tampons!
