1. Jump into the cold water

Maybe your period surprised you, or maybe you misjudged your tampon size .

Whatever the case, blood stains in your underwear are super annoying and usually happen when you're wearing white panties (who knows that?).

But don't worry, you don't have to spend all your money on new lingerie, just follow these steps to remove the blood stains:

  1. Soaking in cold water
Cold water is very important because the red component of blood, hemoglobin, remains trapped. With warm water it dissolves, bonds with the fabric and you can say goodbye to your white panties.
  2. Curd soap or baking powder/soda (for light fabrics)
With curd soap: Rub the blood stain thoroughly, wait a moment and then rinse it with cold water. With baking powder: Depending on the size of the blood stain, sprinkle one to three teaspoons on it, let it work and also rinse it with cold water.
  3. Into the washing machine
Warm water is only allowed after pre-treatment (steps 1 & 2). Wash your item as described in the instructions, at 30 or 60 degrees depending on the material.

Tadaaa. If everything went smoothly, your panties will now be sparkling clean again. You can use the same process to remove blood stains from bed sheets, pants and jeans . But sometimes Aunt Rosa goes on other (nightly) excursions and soaking them is a bit more difficult. Yes, we're talking blood stains on the mattress.

2. Clean the mattress

We admit it: blood stains on the mattress are a real pain, but it happens to the best of us. So don't fret for long and get to work on the red mess. Because the longer the blood dries, the harder it is to remove .

The best thing to do is to put a damp cloth with cold (!) water on the spot and let it work. Maybe a little dabbing will remove some of it.

If not, use baking soda or salt, mix it with a little water and cover the stain.

After about 45 minutes of exposure, you can go over it with a kitchen roll and dab everything again with cold water if necessary.

Caution: Baking soda or salt can attack the material and color of the mattress, so it is best to do a quick test on an inconspicuous area first.

3. No more leaks!

As promised, here are our ultimate tips to prevent the blood stain debacle in advance.

  1. Get to know your period
Periods are a reliable friend, not for all women, but for many. As a rule (haha), bleeding starts every 28 days. It's best to keep a record or enter in your smartphone calendar how often Aunt Rosa comes to visit. Then you can prepare yourself, your panties and your mattress by wearing an organic tampon or panty liner .

  2. Timely tampon replenishment
The biggest problem is often that the tampons are empty exactly when you need them most. To ensure that your supply is always replenished, we offer you organic tampons on a subscription basis. Your supplies will then automatically arrive in your mailbox.

  3. Find the right size
Blood stains in your underwear often happen because you are using the wrong tampon size. Here you can find out what suits you best. And because bleeding can be heavier or lighter, our box contains up to three different sizes - tailored to your individual needs. It is also important to change your tampon at least every 4 - 6 hours (some days more often).

  4. menstrual underwear

If you just want to let it go because you don't want to be dependent on tampons, don't want to insert anything, have a very heavy and (for tampons) unpredictable period, or or or...
Switch to period panties ! They are the absolute game changer when it comes to reliable blood sucking . Safe, comfortable and good looking too. What more could a woman want?!
