No sooner had the contraception problem been solved (at least temporarily) with the coil, than tadaaaa the next one came along: tampon and coil – is that even possible?
Somehow you start to wonder whether you can still use tampons now? The area down there is already “occupied”.
The answer: yes and no.
Summary
Vaginal discharge is not uncommon and nothing to be ashamed of !
Your discharge is white ? That sounds normal !
Is your discharge brown , yellow or green ? This can be a sign of an illness, but it doesn't have to be.

1. After inserting the coil
Basically, the spiral has nothing against visitors (it would be somewhat illogical, after all, that's why it's there in the first place).
The only exception: Immediately after insertion, the coil is a little diva and needs a lot of me-time to get used to its new home.
That means no sex, no tampons. And that for seven whole days.
What's particularly tricky is that the pads are usually inserted during bleeding. So you can swap your sexual partner for organic pads for now. Yay - not!
After that, the situation is fortunately a little more relaxed and the coil is happy when someone comes by from time to time. Tampons are only allowed in, let's say, its "front yard". The coil is placed in the uterus - much deeper than a tampon could ever go. So there are no space problems . Nevertheless, the combination is not entirely without problems.
This is because the IUD needs time to properly position and "anchor" itself in the uterus. Using tampons can interfere with this process and increase the risk of the IUD becoming dislodged or falling out prematurely. It is important to follow your doctor's specific instructions and use alternative menstrual products .
2. Tampons and an already inserted coil
If the IUD is already properly positioned in the uterus and you feel comfortable, you can usually use tampons . However, there are some important things to keep in mind. Make sure you insert the tampon correctly so that it does not come into contact with or pull on the IUD. It is advisable to choose gentle and smaller tampons to minimize the risk of irritation or damage to the IUD .
Problem: The coil comes with two appendages that have sneaked out. The so-called retrieval threads , with which the coil can be removed again. These protrude from the cervix into the vagina. Very rarely and in exceptional cases it can happen that the thread ends and the tampon stick together - and if you remove one, the other could slip out with it.
That's why the IUD package inserts also say that "the use of sanitary pads is recommended". But in the end, as is so often the case, it's up to you to decide .
3. Consult your doctor
It's always a good idea to check with your doctor before using tampons while wearing an IUD. Every body and IUD is unique , and your doctor can give you personalized instructions tailored to your specific situation.
If you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to contact a professional and ask for advice .
4. Alternative menstrual products
If you want to play it safe while wearing an IUD or have concerns about using tampons, there are alternative menstrual products you can consider.
Panty liners and sanitary pads are safe options that should not affect the position or functionality of the IUD. They also offer the advantage of being an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution.
Or you can try our period panties , so you can really relax while you go.
The menstrual cup is a different matter: people who wear the IUD should be careful when using the menstrual cup. It can happen that you accidentally pull the IUD when removing the menstrual cup. This happens especially if the cup is inserted too deeply and sits directly on the cervix and the vacuum is not released properly. The menstrual cup and IUD become inseparable especially if the vacuum is not released properly. When removing the menstrual cup, it is therefore super-super-extremely important that you do not just pull and jerk wildly .

6. Body observation and prevention
Regardless of whether you use tampons or not, it is important to pay close attention to your body and notice any changes.
Watch for unusual pain, bleeding, or other symptoms that may indicate possible displacement or problems with the IUD.
