1. What is period underwear again?

Period underwear is underwear that can be worn during your period. It has an integrated absorbent surface and absorbs the amount of blood that several tampons would absorb.

Period underwear from The Female Company is reusable, made from sustainable materials and vegan . Period panties are available in different styles and with different absorbency levels, so they can be individually adapted to each person and every lifestyle. After wearing them - individually or in combination with another period product - you wash them briefly by hand before washing them with other laundry at 40 or 60 degrees in the washing machine and then air-drying them.

Did you know that we use Stay Dry Layer technology in our panties? You can find out more about how our panties become leak-proof here .

2. Our Stay Dry Layer Technology

Wetlands? There are some elsewhere. Our Stay Dry Layer Technology absorbs liquids in a flash so that you stay dry. You can choose between various super absorbent models. The Stay Dry Layer Technology in menstrual underwear, developed by experts, has 4 layers for optimal absorbency and remains breathable .

The super absorbency of period underwear works thanks to innovative technology. A smart absorbing layer is incorporated into the crotch of the period panty. Two layers ensure that liquid is quickly absorbed and firmly contained. It is incorporated into the panty so flatly that it is hardly noticeable. Super comfy wearing comfort guaranteed, no trace of diaper feeling.
Our most absorbent menstrual underwear models stay dry even on days with heavy menstrual bleeding. Their absorbency means they can absorb a lot of liquid and are made of soft organic cotton. This means they are comfortable and pleasantly dry to wear, even during heavy bleeding.

We are constantly trying to improve ourselves and our panties and adapt them to your needs. Our brand new Flexi Technology offers 90% improved absorbency and is an incredible 60% more absorbent than comparable seamless panties on the market. Tested and certified by the renowned Hohenstein Institute, Flexi Technology is the first European panty technology with a floating absorbent insert that adapts to your body and absorbs the blood exactly where it flows. With our innovative Fluid Protection seam processing, side leakage is a thing of the past.
In the shop you can now see our droplet system - 3 drops are the strong panties, 4 drops are the ones that are particularly absorbent.

And the best part: Our products are non-toxic, free of biocides and harmful substances, guaranteed, tested and certified! We use recycled polyester and are only 1 mm thicker than your usual underwear. In the future , all new panties that come out will be improved with exactly this technology. You can see which panties you can already order with Flexi Technology on the product pages . Welcome to a new era of period underwear!

3. Mountains of garbage caused by menstruation

A menstruating person has their period on average twelve times a year. This means that an average of between 10,000 and 17,000 different disposable hygiene products are used during menstruation. Quite apart from the cost factor for us as buyers, menstruation generates between 75,000 and 125,000 tons of waste every year - and that's in Germany, Austria and Switzerland alone.

The issue of climate change and the impact that waste has on the environment is greater than ever and many people are more environmentally conscious - this also applies to the choice of menstrual products . The search for alternatives to tampons and sanitary pads opens up new possibilities. In addition to menstrual cups, menstrual sponges and washable cloth sanitary pads, period underwear has recently become a welcome innovation . And it has more than just environmental benefits...

4. Save costs and pain?

Have you ever heard of free bleeding ? Many menstruating women find that their period pains decrease or disappear completely when they - we'll tell you how it is - just let it flow.

How can that be?! You can imagine the uterus as being similar to a balloon. The uterus is a hollow muscular body with a narrow part at the end, the cervix. The cervix narrows the cervix.

The inside of the uterus is lined with mucous membrane. During menstruation, blood from the mucous membrane collects inside the uterus . As more and more blood collects, pressure is created on the cervix and the blood flows out of the body through the cervix and the vagina as menstrual bleeding.

The fact that menstrual pain is less when you do not use period products may be because the cervix can open more easily when there is no tampon or menstrual cup blocking the natural flow of blood.

5. Is period underwear worth it?

Whether tampons, sanitary pads or panty liners: For decades , menstruating women have used a lot of period products . Let's be honest, the most stressful thing about menstruating is the pain you have to deal with once a month, but what you have to spend on your period hurts just as much!

On average, we spend over 20,000 euros on our periods in our lifetime. And that doesn't just include tampons, sanitary pads, etc., i.e. the products that support our bodies during menstruation, but also painkillers and chocolate! If you limit it to just the classic hygiene products, you'll spend around 15 euros per period. That comes to 180 euros per year - ouch, we're cramping.

If you do the calculation again and compare it with period underwear, you get the following result: A period panty costs on average around 30 euros, an average of five panties are needed per period, which makes 150 euros as a one-time purchase. Because if you take good care of your panties, they should last you several years!

We see - the cost-benefit calculation works out , not to mention the environment, which benefits. A fixed calculation at this point - even if you wear menstrual underwear on just three days of your period, you would need around 200 fewer disposable items within five years. Period underwear it is - we would say! But see for yourself:

Did you know : With proper care, your period underwear should last you several years. More on proper care here .
