The menstrual cycle consists of different phases . First, the maturation and release of an egg from the ovaries occurs, which is known as ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus thickens to prepare for a possible pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilized, menstruation occurs.
During menstruation, the shed endometrium is expelled from the small blood vessels of the uterus along with blood. This process can last between three and seven days and then repeats on average every 28 days. However, it is important to note that the menstrual cycle can vary from girl to girl.
